Social Enterprise Reached the Top Eight in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Hong Kong Region)
K-Farm Social Enterprise Limited (K-Farm), one of the social enterprises supported by EdUHK, participated in “The 7th Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition of University Students of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan”. Founded by Alumnus Lucas Ngan, K-Farm is an early-stage start-up focusing on the promotion of a green and healthy lifestyle. It provides various types of educational programmes, such as farm tours and tech-farm training, for families and schools in Hong Kong.
One of the finalists in the University’s Education and Social Entrepreneur Fund (EASE Fund) 2019/20, the K-Farm team applied for the aforesaid competition. With the support of University’s Knowledge Transfer Sub-office (KTSO), the team made it to the semi-finals in the Hong Kong region and reached the top eight after competing with other teams in early December 2020. After the competition, K-Farm became more popular among entrepreneurs, tutors and investors in the respective field in the Greater Bay Area.
Alumnus Ngan said, “EASE Fund is far more than just a seed-funding scheme. It enables us to develop essential skills through different training opportunities, including proposal writing, financial planning, and business pitching, to help us step up and implement our ideas. We are more confident in taking up challenges and realising our entrepreneurial dream, which is to integrate STEAM and farm education to advocate a green lifestyle in Hong Kong and beyond!”
EASE Fund is established by the KTSO of the University to provide a new channel to transfer knowledge via the creation of sustainable business ventures by the EdUHK community.
