Alumna Steffie Lui (MEd (Early Childhood Education) and an EASE Fund awardee) has garnered positive feedback from many parents and kindergarten teachers for her original moral education book series “Contagious Magic of Moral Education” which is aimed to motivate children to develop positive characters and habits in early stage (i.e. 3 to 6 years old). Since the launch of the picture book series in July 2020, over 500 books have been sold to the public and a few schools have considered to adopt the storybooks as teaching materials. “We are grateful for the University’s support, including the comprehensive entrepreneurial resources and mentorship services from the Entrepreneur Team of Knowledge Transfer Sub-office; and the sharing made by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office to its alumni network comprising practitioners in the education sector. That enabled us to be duly recognised in such a short period of time," Steffie said.
Receiving positive feedback, Steffie decided to extend the target group of the picture book series to lower primary school students. She joins hands with an EdUHK student, Roxanne Lo (BA (Creative Arts and Culture) & BEd (Visual Arts)) in the production of this new initiative. In comparison with the previous series, the illustration of this new series is more geared towards science fiction, which requires the little readers to learn “read pictures” and comprehend the story using their imagination. “Apart from developing moral characters, our picture book series can also develop student’s visual literacy, which is an important literacy skill that parents often ignore," Steffie said.
Steffie has been invited to talks and exhibitions, sharing her thoughts in moral education as a result of the success of the series.
