Switching from Google Gmail to Microsoft Office 365 for Alumni

Google announced plans earlier this year to make significant changes to its global storage policy for the academic community. One aspect of this policy is that, from July 2022, it will no longer provide unlimited storage in its Google Workspace for Education (formerly known as G Suite) products, such as Gmail, Google Docs and Drive. Google’s new subscription plan will impose limits on disk space and the total number of accounts in the subscription.

Over the years, the University has leveraged the service provided by Google to offer free Gmail accounts and related storage for our alumni, students and staff members. This has always been at the discretion of Google and subject to change.

To continue providing free email and cloud storage to University members, the University has decided to allocate additional budget and resources to provide services on Microsoft Office 365 platform (which is subject to change should Microsoft changes its policies in future). The Office of the Chief Information Officer can provide alumni with technical guidance for the process.
