EdUHK Recognises Asian Games Medallists

In recognition of the recent accomplishments of six Asian Games medallists, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), presented them with a Letter of Appreciation on 4 September 2018. The three gold medallists were Leo Au Chun-ming (Squash), Eric Kwok Pak-nga (Rugby), and Shek Wai-hung (Gymnastics); and the three bronze medallists were Chau Yee-ping (Rowing), Choi Wan-yu (Karate) and Li Ching-wan (Table tennis).

Among the athletes who represented Hong Kong in the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, 46 are EdUHK undergraduates or graduates. Leo Au Chun-ming, Shek Wai-hung and Sarah Lee Wai-sze (Cycling) won a total of five gold medals (out of eight medals won by the entire Hong Kong team). Together with four silver medals and four bronze medals, EdUHK elite athletes won a total of 13 medals for Hong Kong at this year’s Asian Games.

Alumnus Lee Park-keong’s Book Launch

Mr Lee Park-keong, Chairman of the Grantham College of Education Past Students’ Association (pen name: Li Tian-bi) is a renowned Cantonese opera singer and a researcher on Cantonese opera aria. On 31 August 2018, the launch on his new book “General Education in Cantonese Opera - The Journey into the Study of Aria” was held. The book contains four major chapters with a total of 66 articles on aria, appreciation of famous songs, lecture and exchange, experience of renowned singers. A CD recording is included for appreciation and better understanding.

The Education University of Hong Kong Elder Academy’s Calligraphy Class

Dr Kwong Kai-to, Chairman of the Rural Training College Alumni Association, was invited by The Education University of Hong Kong Elder Academy to be the instructor of the calligraphy class held on campus on 24 August 2018. Participants benefited a lot from the guidance of Dr Kwong Kai-to.

Yoga Stretch Therapy Session

Alumni Affairs and Development Office held the “Yoga Stretch Therapy Session” on 23 August 2018, having invited a professional instructor to teach yoga stretching and breathing techniques. A group of alumni and friends relaxed their muscles through a series of stretching exercises to restore their body-mind balance.

Singing That Has Worked Wonders

Performing arts can help young people build up their self-confidence and self-image; through performances, they can enter into a dialogue with their own body and mind. Bobo Lo [Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Primary), Music Major], having developed a passionate interest in performing arts since her childhood, has provided training for a number of choirs over the years. In 2014, she even established the WAO! Singers with a novel form of performance to sow the seeds of music in different districts throughout Hong Kong.

Application Deadline for EASE Fund

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has announced the establishment of the Education and Social Entrepreneurs Fund Scheme (EASE Fund), which will provide seed grants to EdUHK students and alumni to set up startups, social enterprises or NGOs for them to pursue education and social innovation ventures. The application deadline for EASE Fund is 12:00 noon of 19 September 2018.
