EdUHK Honorary Fellow Dr Kwong Kai-to at the “Ceremony of the Best Teacher of the Elders Award Scheme”

Dr Kwong Kai-to, Chairman of the Rural Training College Alumni Association, made a speech and presented awards on 8 July 2019 at the “Ceremony of the Best Teacher of the Elders Award Scheme”, organised by The Education University of Hong Kong Elder Academy and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong. The purpose of the “Best Teacher of the Elders Award” is to promote “Third-age education” to the government, the education sector, the social welfare sector and the public, and at the same time invite more people to acknowledge the contributions made by teachers to senior education so as to applaud their enthusiasm in teaching. Other officiating guests at the award ceremony included both Dr Leong Che-hung, former Chairman of the Elderly Commission and Founding Chairman of the Committee of Elder Academy Development Foundation, and Mr Chan How-chi, Chairman of the Committee on Elder Academy Development Foundation. The winners shared their observations, experiences, difficulties encountered and solutions at the ceremony.

Donate to support students in need at The Education University of Hong Kong

According to EdUHK Student Affairs Office’s “Profile of New Full-time Students 2018-19”, nearly half of the freshmen respondents expected financial difficulties during their university studies. In fact, a large number of students come from low-income families (family’s monthly income being less than HK$20,000), which is even lower than the median monthly household income (HK$28,000) announced by the Census and Statistics Department in the fourth quarter of 2018. These students may need to work part-time to make money, and quite a number of them are working not only for themselves, but also to help provide for the family!

In view of this, EdUHK would like to invite your generous contribution and donation to set up bursaries for helping these poor students. With donations reaching a fixed amount of money, we will set up a bursary to alleviate the financial burden of these students. When they are studying hard and working hard, they will get to know that there are a group of enthusiastic alumni and helpful community people standing by to encourage them put effort into their studies as well as putting their educational ideals and life goals into practice. To make a donation, please visit the website of The EdUHK Foundation and select “Bursaries” for “Use of Donation”, or complete the donation form and return it to the Alumni Affairs and Development Office, The Education University of Hong Kong, 10 Lo Ping Road, Tai Po, New Territories together with the cheque (if applicable). For enquiries, please call 2948 6049 or email to aado@eduhk.hk
