Time Capsule Opening cum 25th Anniversary Commemorative Publication Launch

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a ceremony on 27 May 2019 to open a time capsule placed on campus in the 1990s, unearthing a number of items and documents that bear testimony to the transformation of the University.

Among the historical items preserved in the capsule was a letter written by Founding Council Chairman, Dr Simon Ip Sik-on, in 1996 to the current Council Chairman. During the ceremony, Dr Ip passed the letter, which set out the vision and mission of the then Institute, to Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang, the current Council Chairman of the University.

On the same occasion, EdUHK launched its 25th Anniversary Commemorative Publication to pay tribute to teachers. The publication features the stories of 25 individuals in four chapters, namely “Brilliant teachers nurture star students”, “Blessed to have a mentor for life”, “Family of educators” and “Teaching with heart and soul”.

More than 30 alumni including the Chairmen and Committee Members of Alumni Associations, alumni of former Colleges of Education and alumni who graduated in 1995 (i.e. the first cohort of alumni) attended the ceremony to grace the occasion.

Dragon Boat Festival Rice Dumpling Wrapping Workshop

The Alumni Affairs and Development Office (AADO) organised the “Dragon Boat Festival Rice Dumpling Wrapping Workshop” on 18 May 2019. Alumni and friends, under the guidance of Mrs Anissa Wong Leung Suk Ying, the tutor at Shun Hing Cooking Centre and also our alumna, produced traditional salted meat rice dumplings and lotus seed paste rice dumplings. The place was filled with a happy festive mood celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival.

In addition, AADO is thankful to the tutor and a few of our alumni who attended this workshop for their generosity and donations to The Education University of Hong Kong in supporting the establishment of bursaries to help their juniors in need. We hope that donations will continue to come in to set up more bursaries for helping students with financial difficulties.

Although Alumna Lam is about to retire, her relationship with her students will not end here for she believes that “a relationship with a student belongs to a lifetime!” She is full of anticipation for retirement and passion for life. Alumna Lam loves the cartoon character, Snoopy, so much so that in her office Snoopy is found everywhere, reflecting the heart of a child’s and gaining herself the name, “Headmistress Snoopy”.
