The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has received a generous donation from Simon Suen Foundation to establish the “Simon Suen Foundation Scholarship” and the “Simon Suen Foundation Bursary”. The signing ceremony was held on 17 July 2018. Guests who attended the ceremony included Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of EdUHK, Mrs Mary Suen, Founding Director of Simon Suen Foundation and Ms Chloe Suen, Chair of Simon Suen Foundation.

Prof. Stephen Cheung extended his sincere appreciation to Simon Suen Foundation for its strong support given to EdUHK. He pointed out that, “Sustainable development of the University depends on the enthusiastic support from the community. The University is very grateful for Simon Suen Foundation’s generous donation to establish the Scholarship and Bursary, to encourage students to pursue excellence and to assist EdUHK in bringing up talented people.”

Ms Chloe Suen, Chair of Simon Suen Foundation said, “The Foundation is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture and art. Through the Scholarship and Bursary, we wish to encourage students to take courses in Chinese education, Chinese language, Chinese history and visual arts so as to promote academic research in Chinese culture and art. This will provide impetus to the synergistic development of culture in both academic and artistic fields, from which more young people will come to understand both the tradition and the history from our culture, and then carry it forward.”

In the award presentation ceremony of the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence 2017/2018 held on 6 July 2018, out of the 38 recipients in the areas of “Kindergarten Education”, “Physical Education Key Learning Area” and “Technology Education Key Learning Area”, 21 were graduates of EdUHK and the former Colleges of Education, with 7 receiving an award and 14 a certificate of merit. Since the Scheme’s inception, 636 out of 878 (approximately 72%) awards/ certificates have been presented to our alumni.

Additionally, it is our pleasure to announce that two of our outstanding alumni will be presented award and commendation by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR Government this year. They are Ms Ho Lan-sang receiving the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service, and Mr Lee Luen-fai receiving Justice of the Peace.

To provide an opportunity for potential students to learn more about EdUHK’s academic programmes and career development in the education sector, graduates’ experience sharing sessions will be held on the annual Information Day. Alumni are invited to join us for sharing their experience in teaching practice, exchange programmes, hall activities or working life.
