President Message : Passing Away of Professor Bernard Luk Hung-kay and the Institute’s Condolences Arrangements

Dear Alumni,

I am sure you will share my grief in learning the sad news of the passing away of Professor Bernard Luk Hung-kay, former Vice President (Academic) in Canada on 23 March 2016, at the age of 70.

Although I do not know Professor Luk personally nor have had the opportunity to cross paths with Professor Luk during his four-year tenure at HKIEd, I understand that he dedicated himself to the development of the Institute and that he commanded the respect of many of his fellow colleagues and students. On behalf of the Institute, I presented a wreath and attended a mass in memory of Professor Luk yesterday evening, together with hundreds of his friends and colleagues.

At the Institute, we will set up a condolences corner at the CRSE Quiet Room (B4-P-01), a place to which Professor Luk had great emotional attachment. The corner will be opened for one week starting tomorrow (30 March – 6 April). Your thoughts of and tributes to Professor Luk will be sent to his family later.

Lastly I hope you will join me in offering our condolences, prayers and sympathy to every member of Professor Luk’s family.

Best wishes,

Professor Stephen Y.L. Cheung
President
